End of Month

Today marks the end of another month and this weekend we welcome in Day Light Savings. It is really wet and windy here today, great for being indoors, but we have had some lovely weather which has enabled us to do wonders in the vegetable patch.

This is the vegie patch before we commenced work on it. I had been doing the crop rotation method for the last 3 years but I have been convinced to try another easier and effective method of providing our table with yummy fruit and vegies. Hubby and I were discussing here what we would do.

A bit more progress. A lot of weeding and whipper snipping had been done here.

A lot has happened in such a short time. We really got to work last week and pulled out the fence surrounding the garden, placed the bottom half of the new beds in their spot and started filling them with soil. Those boxes are very level (thanks Hubby, you did a wonderful job with your leveller.) I am SO pleased with what he has done and really looking forward to planting this next week.

We have 3 days straight of very sunny weather coming up....garden here we come...Dot

Milestone

In the last week a milestone was reached. D2 turned 30!!!. We had family over for dinner and celebrated together. There was plenty to eat with much to choose from. Shepherd's Pie, meatballs, steamed vegies, savoury glazed chicken, dip, hot potato chips and pavlova for those who were not watching their sugar intake.

My brother made the pav and he put 3 candles in it, which we lit and all sang 'happy birthday'. It was a great night of laughter and chatter. I always love family time together.

Hubby got out at the weekend and cleaned his para-glider. He is selling it. Not getting out of flying just yet though!!

He has looked after it very well. Someone has only to buy it and fly away.

Yesterday I was up the coast and just crossed the road and there beside me was....

...a magnificent patch of pink tulips coming out to bloom.

Enjoy Spring....Dot

Middle

Well it's the middle of the month and I always check my spending so far in the month to see if I need to curb it in some ways to make the budget work at the end of it. (We are going well this month!!)

Last week was a surprise in the weather. It turned cold and wet but today is bright and sunny. Saturday was a little overcast but Hubby and I quite enjoyed it as we got out to the front of the house and cleared a lot of the garden. We packed the trailer well and only had to give up one ticket when we went to the tip.

Look what came in the mail for me. I won a voucher to spend at a bookstore because I found the 'pot' in Road Assistant magazine that comes to me monthly. I don't actually always find the pot. Hubby found it for me this time. We find we have to sit in good light, so lunch time is a good 'round the table' activity. Does that mean now that I have to give up my voucher? Naaah...I sent through the email (hee hee)

The baby blanket is nearly finished. I am just hand stitching the binding to it and I don't have far to go.

I am making up a little cushion to match. Just pinning it here.

The spring flowers are gorgeous. I have fuchsias throughout the garden in different colours. The daffodils on the kitchen bench are from up the coast and outside you might spot the camellias.  There are different colours of those about too.

Have a great week everyone....Dot

Broken

Hi Family and friends
Have you ever had a broken nights sleep? I thought it would be over when the children were grown up and at the moment it's just hubby and I. He hasn't quite got over the cough and so last night did not take any tablets and was up about 3am and then that was it for me. Broken sleep until the alarm sang out at 6.50 and I did not want to get up. Of course, I pushed myself and have been getting all the things done that I need to ahead of time in case I crash early this evening.

Last week I started an 8 week course in Calligraphy. There are about 12 in the class and we had a great time having our first go at what should become an easy art of the writing.

These were my first attempts on that day and I must say with further practice I have improved a little.

Saturday was a gorgeous sunny day and Hubby was able to get a major job crossed off the list.

He did a few things on his para glider. I asked him to find up the camp chairs and we enjoyed lunch outside.

We had a great weekend. Fathers Day was special for Hubby as we were able to Skype 3 ways with family and had a clear reception.

Off to get a cup of tea....Dot

Spring

WooooHoooo!!! Spring is here and the sun is gone. Last week we had a wonderful week of sun and it got quite warm. Last night we went to bed with a gentle rain on the roof. It was lovely. Today it is dull and wet. Not windy, which is great and I have to say that I don't mind as I know there are more sunny days to come.

For a while now, I have had it on my mind to make my own deodorant. I was getting low last week and so I thought I would get it and make some. It has proved to be successful and I am more than happy with the results.

So I now make my own face cloths, soap and deodorant.

Here is the recipe:

Deodorant
6 Tb coconut oil
4 Tb baking soda
4 Tb arrowroot powder

In a medium bowl, mix together powders then mash in coconut oil with a fork until well mixed together. Store in a glass jar that makes it easy to use. eg: with a wide mouth.

And there you have it. In a warmer climate (D1 and D3) you will find it easier to use from the jar that I do here. I have to pick some out and warm it in my fingers to apply.

Hubby and I have been shopping. What could this possibly mean? Bit of renovating?

Stay tuned.....Dot
